If your summer isn’t jam packed this time around, devoting some time this summer for volunteering is a great pastime for you and your kids! It can help foster a giving mentality to your children no matter their age!
Why It Matters
Nonprofits are always in need of volunteers! Nonprofits need help in many resources, whether it’s monetary or time spent at their physical location, or more! They depend on people giving their time and energy to help their nonprofit flourish, and that’s where you can come in! Depending on where you want to volunteer and the ages of your children, you can bring them along to help out multiple organizations. This can help your children foster a sense of community and nurturing their fellow man.
Where to Volunteer
You can also leave it up to your children to pick where to go and volunteer. See what your kids are interested in, and try to help them narrow down a few places to go to and help out. They may be very people-focused, so you can check out food banks, Meals on Wheels, or even organizations that do tabling at events as it’s very focused on talking to the public. If your kids really like animals, you can research area animal shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries. Even zoos and aquariums may offer summer programs or volunteer opportunities for younger children. If your child is more introverted or a bookworm, look up volunteer activities that children can do at your local library.
If your kid is in high school, volunteering is a great way for them to experience the big world and see what they like and what potential jobs they may want to pursue in the future. Spending time volunteering over the summer can also help build their college admissions applications, as many colleges and universities like to see volunteer hours and commitment to a kid’s community as well.
Giving Back
Volunteering is a great way to give back, and including your kids can help them tremendously as they grow and see the world. Catering to what they like can help them get excited to help, and make it a fun activity throughout the summer months to beat the heat and make a difference in the world!
