christmas-treeIn this season of anticipation and celebration there are so many great ways to make your homeschool learning merry and bright.  Here are for your consideration:

  1.  Holidays Around the World ~ Research about how other people and places celebrate at this time of year.  Choose one and make a special project reflecting their traditions.  Compare and contrast with your own holiday celebrations.
  2. Memorize a special poem.
  3. Edible Math ~ Turn a fractions lesson into a baking project!
  4. Rewrite your own version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
  5. Gingerbread Backdrop ~ Build a gingerbread house then use it as a setting for creative writing.
  6. Learn to play your favorite carol on an instrument.
  7. Take familiar holiday songs and create your own words.
  8. Sculpt a holiday scene from clay or play dough.
  9. The Gift of Math ~ Take several giftwrapped boxes and figure the surface area and volume.  For younger kids, predict how many boxes can be stacked to be as tall as your Christmas tree.  Stack and measure to test your predictions.
  10. Interview an older family member to learn how they celebrated when they were younger.  Record the interview in some way.
  11. Volunteer for an organization that helps people.
  12. Drive around after dark looking at the lights.  See how many different adjectives you can list to describe what you see.
  13. Research why evergreen trees stay green.
  14. Create your own Nutcracker ballet.
  15. Have everyone write something to be included in your annual family letter.
