Homeschoolers have been noted for many things. They are spelling bee champions and well sought after college recruits. While there have always been actors with a homeschooling background (for example, Elijah Wood and Raven Symone), homeschoolers are penetrating the industry more and more. Here are a few examples:
Homeschool student Braxton Beckham stars with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler in “Blended” coming to theaters May 23rd.
In this romantic comedy, Braxton (age 13) plays Drew Barrymore’s son. While filming on location in South Africa and Georgia, Braxton was a homeschool student through International Virtual Learning Academy. When asked what part homeschool has played in his acting career, Braxton had this to say:
[Homeschool] has made it far easier in various ways. One way is that it allows me to go to my auditions without being late or getting behind in my schoolwork. Another way is that I can move at my own pace. If I have a big job coming up I can move ahead and get things done so I can focus on the big job, but still have done a good job with my school.

“Moms’ Night Out” director Jon Erwin claims he wouldn’t be a director today without homeschool.
Starring Patricia Heaton (remember Debra in Everybody Loves Raymond?) and Sean Astin (of Hobbit fame), “Moms’ Night Out” is a comedy about moms taking a night off and the hilarious adventure that ensues.
In an open letter to encourage homeschool moms, Jon Erwin, co-director of Moms’ Night Out, says homeschool was a perfect fit for his hyperactivity when he was young and for pursuing his passion for film as he got older. He says,

Homeschool family makes epic movie
Raising $80,000, the Burns family produced a film in 2007. Pendragon: The Sword of His Father takes place in Britain in 411AD during the Saxon invasion. The cast, crew, and producers are all from homeschool families. Pendragon has sold about 2000 DVDs to date.
