With the start of the school year comes the potential for at-home learning again. Many schools have been back to the brick and mortar buildings for years now, but Covid still persists, hitting certain areas and neighborhoods consistently. With this uptick in Covid cases, some schools are having students go back to schooling at home, ensuring that everyone stays safe and germ-free, at least for now.

New Layout

You made the new school space in your home when Covid hit, but since then, you most likely turned your living space back into living space and not a classroom. With your kids potentially coming right back home for schooling and learning, the need for a school space comes up again. Since it might be more temporary than last time, you may just want to find a nice, quiet space for your kids to do their schoolwork as opposed to devoting an entire part of your home for their schooling.

If there is a spare bedroom, or even your or your partner’s office where they can set up a small area to study, that is definitely more ideal than their own bedroom or the living room. Finding a space that is quiet and as free of distractions as possible is the best thing you can do to help set your kid up to complete their schoolwork easily and quickly. In their bedroom, they are going to get distracted by all their stuff and want to do something fun instead. In the living room, the TV may be on, which can be highly distracting or watching you or your spouse making dinner or doing little things around the house. Having a small area devoted to their butt in the seat and studying will help them focus and help you get on top of your own responsibilities, rather than having to redirect them back to their schoolwork.

The Right Tools

Obviously, making sure your kid is set up with everything they need to get their schoolwork done at home is essential as well. Hopefully your school has the capacity to send along a tablet or laptop for them to do their schoolwork, otherwise, utilizing your or your partner’s office may be the best option as they can use the computer. Make sure your kid has all the books and assignments already in the room with them, so they can focus properly and won’t be leaving to get everything they need. Have a few snacks and even their headphones handy to help them cancel out any noise they may hear in the adjoining rooms. And if need be, you may have to take their phone away to make sure they can focus up!
