In today’s hectic world, it is far too easy to get caught up in the regular routines and forget to check in on our children. Every day brings it’s own set of challenges and for some kids, it can be overwhelming. Whether you homeschool or send your kids to a traditional school, make sure to take time and check in on them.

Hustle & Bustle

Every day, there is something changing and kids are continually adapting to their environment. Although school systems need a revamp after all these years, any kind of change at school can throw them off their game. And add to that the normal hustle and bustle of trying to learn while growing up and interacting with their friends (and sometimes enemies, unfortunately). Every kid’s school is going to be a bustling meca of different people’s backgrounds, beliefs, and different learning styles. There is such diversity in schools that most people do not really stop and think about it, and kids are navigating through these immense challenges every day. It is asking a lot of our kids to go through all this while learning at the exact same pace or style as everybody else!

There is nothing wrong with diversity at all! Every person should be embraced for who they are, and how they may excel at a certain lesson or task. Schools are a difficult terrain to try to navigate as they are inherently more standardized and formed to do everything the same for every student. For years now, this is increasingly showing to not be productive, both for teachers and students. We as parents need to be supportive of our kids if they are struggling in school and see how we can best support them through these crazy days as they grow up and come into their own.

Progress

For many children, the path to their future is not always clear, and is changing more and more every day. When older generations were growing up, there was not a lot of diversity in the job market and what you could do with your skills. Now, technology is booming, simple things like sports have advanced, and are going to continue to change. A one-size-fits-all mentality is not going to cut it anymore when it comes to education and for helping your children figure out what they want to pursue in life. Make sure to have frequent conversations with your kids and make sure they know you are proud of them, no matter what they want to do in life!
