If you are struggling with finding the perfect gift for your long list of friends, family, and of course your children, then making something homemade can be a great way to make it personal and more cherished.

Buy, Buy, Buy

In this day and age, all the major holidays seem to revolve around buying something fancy and expensive. Whether it’s the newest tech or phone, or the most luxurious item in a department store, everyone is seeking that one gift that ultimately brings comfort. It can be comfort through physical touch, like a cashmere sweater or super plush blanket, or comfort through staying busy, like watching TV, streaming, and posting online with a new tablet or phone.

But let’s face it, buying all the newest, fanciest things can be expensive. And come next Christmas (or even sooner), that gadget is going to be out of date and that blanket or sweater may be a little worn, or “so last season”. It can be difficult staying on top of all the new gadgets every year and making sure you are getting the right item for your kids.

Turning to a Craft

When you make something instead, your kids may give you a sideways glance, but they will definitely appreciate the effort you took in making it. It might prove tricky attempting to make a gift for every single person on your list, and that’s understandable. It may be easier leaning on gift cards or the like when it comes to sending gifts to friends or family you won’t see on the holiday itself. But for closer family and friends, the sentiment can go a long way!

Determining the right thing to make may take a minute, so it’s always best to start early and plan ahead. You may already be a crafter, so this part is easy! Figure out which family member might like what, and then set to it! If you are a master crafter, you can cut up the monotony by making different gifts for friends and family. You could make a wreath for your aunt and then make a scarf or hat for your spouse, for example. You could make a sweater for your daughter and then a blanket for your son! The list of possibilities can go on and on, while your family and friends will appreciate the personal touch of something homemade.
