With the spread of COVID-19, everyone is advised to continue to stay home and distance from each other to stay safe. It can be more difficult to stay connected with others while distancing, but below are a few ways to keep relationships without meeting with someone in person.

Pick Up the Phone

A phone call is probably the simplest way to stay connected with someone from a distance. This is a great option for older people who may have a hard time with video chats and other types of technology. Texting or sending an email is also an easy way to check in with these people.

Schedule Video Chats

We are lucky to be living in a time with many video chat options available for free. Some of these tools are even installed directly onto your smartphone. Whether it’s a virtual happy hour or a casual chat, video chats can make it feel like you’re all together in the same room.

Online Exercise Programs

If you miss going to the gym for your weekly Zumba class, consider taking an online workout class from your home. Many gyms and workout facilities have been offering live streams of their classes for free or with a membership fee. This gives you the ability to work out with potentially hundreds of your peers and feel a unique community connection while staying fit.

Write a Letter

If you want to go very old-fashioned, pull out a pen and paper and write a letter to a friend or family member. This can be a great activity for young children to connect with loved ones who may not be well-versed in modern technology. Plus, buying stamps supports the United States Postal Service.

Learn Something New

If you have some extra free time, why not put it toward learning a new skill you’ve always wanted to master? Check out online college courses, Skillshare classes, LinkedIn learning resources, or any other online education option. Many of these classes also host online forums where you can connect with students learning the same thing as you.
