Odysseyware is an online curriculum for students in grades 3-12 used in schools and by homeschool families. Odysseyware is student-paced, mastery-based, teacher-interactive online. Let’s break this down and see exactly what that means.

Student-paced

Students work at their own pace when using Odysseyware. The system generates assignment due dates, but students can work ahead as they are ready to do so. If they need more time for an activity, they can take the time they need. Due dates are guidelines to ensure timely completion and do not hinder student pace.

Mastery-based

“Masetery-based” means the student must show they understand one concept before moving to the next. This approach prevents learning gaps and ensures thorough learning. In practical terms, a student has to achieve a 70% on one task before they can move on to the next.

For example, the student shown below could not access “Quiz: The LCM and Fractions” until they had adequately completed “Fractions and Decimals.” The student will not be able to go beyond the quiz until they complete it.

Teachers and homeschool parents can customize this process as needed. For example, if they would like their student to move past an activity, they can enable the student to do so. This prevents a student from becoming frustrated and “stuck” on one item.

Teacher-interactive

Odysseyware provides many opportunities for teachers to see student work. There are teacher-graded questions in every lesson. Also, if a student needs help or has a question, they can message the teacher from the page on which they are working. When the teacher receives the message, they can see exactly on what the student is working and where they are struggling or need help. This efficient process keeps the student moving forward and keeps learning authentic.

Teachers, whether in school or home, have a separate log in. They can see student progress and grades and print reports as needed.

Other Odysseyware Features:

In addition to the features mentioned above, Odysseyware also has:

  • Text-to-speech (lessons can be read to students)
  • Printable lessons
  • CTE courses
  • Remedial courses
  • State-specific courses
  • Spanish translation

Odysseyware is rigorous, preparing students for higher learning environments. Odysseyware lessons contain some videos and hands on assignments but also requires a considerable amount of reading (or text read to the student). Therefore it is an ideal choice for students who learn best by reading.
